[Recordings]

1. Fragrance(mp3 clip)

I had this poem sitting around for about a year when Brian Pitts got me hooked on open D tuning. I started playing this riff when I suddenly recalled that poem and the two merged.

2. Wanna Be A Window

-As a depression sufferer, I know what it means to “hear these voices deep inside my mind, saying I won’t make it and stealing all my trying”. This song was a shout in the face of those voices, reminding me that I have a hope and a purpose.

3. If You Would Be a Light

-I wrote this in the car on the way to work one morning. It is a reminder that there are people all around us in need of healing, freedom, and reconciliation. Christ calls us to work on their behalfs.

4. You Reign

-This setting of the Lord’s prayer. I was thrilled when Jimbo took some time to record this with me. His singing voice trembles with a tenderness toward God, unlike any other I have heard. It is a joy to hear him sing and lead worship.

5. Snake Sanctuary

-A flower covered junk pile in my neighborhood was the origonal, humorous image for this song. It got more serious as I saw the metaphor inside it.

6. Mighty, Mighty Storm

-After many failed attempts to write about our experience with Hurricane Marilyn, I arrived at this. It was one of the toughest songs for me to write, but it needed to be written.

7. I Got A Friend There

-A song of our dangerous journey to “yonder city” in the vein of song from “When I Lay My Burden Down” to “Amazing Grace”. Here I also tip my hat to a bluesman who can touch my heart like no other, the Rev. Gary Davis.

8. The Eleventh Hour

-written while mowing the lawn. I sat down and wrote it all out. Somehow the memory of my grandpa Jack packing the car touched off this series of images dealing with hope. In the studio, Mark came in and put down those sweet leads on that Laravee guitar of his. I could not mic it badly if I tried.

9. Mrs. Perloff

-This is a story I was told about my grandma Ruth, that occurred shortly after they moved from the City to Long Island. It was sung with a smile.

10. Firefliesmp3 clip

- Another weird but true experience, and a picture of how we, too, together can shine enough to light the path so travellers can find their way Home.
